Where's Waldo, AAR

Since we've all had our rabies shots, A small group of us got together for an actual in-person game.  Since we hadn't played in the last year we were basically starting from scratch.  So this was designed as a rules refresher: we kept the artillery, air and infantry to a minimum and just knocked around some armour.

Last night, in the Sublime Emirate of Baba Gannoush, a USMC helicopter went down in a storm.  It crashed near near the village of  Kofta.  Sergeant Waldo Jenkins and his squad, as well as the chopper crew,  have taken refuge in building in the village.  There are wounded to evacuate so they are now waiting for extraction.  Jenkins has established comms with HQ and at daybreak expects to be picked up.

The village of Kofta

A reinforced LAV company has been dispatched to pick up Jenkins.  In the meantime the Baba's Cuban advisors picked up the crash and communications and a recce  coy and a t55 company have been sent to search for the Marines. The Marines know Waldo's hiding spot but the Baba's are closer

The game was played using First Echelon rules. These are an adaption of Battlefront WWII from Fire and Fury .

The Baba Recce Company moves down the highway and into the village.  They start to spread out and search

The T55  company moved up behind the recce company.  The Marines were still bunched up coming through a rocky defile. The tanks were able to immediately engage the LAV's at long range firing straight down the highway.
LAV's deploying under a hail of 100mm shells. It was suggested that the burning vehicle markers look more like social disease markers:  My phallus has turned black and my testes are on fire!

The Marines respond by laying smoke across the highway.  The chain guns start to inflict loses on the BRDM's. Out of the picture the LAV-AT's get into position and with their Thermal imaging can fire through the smoke: that wipes the smile off the face of the tank company

Sgt Jenkins pops up when a BRDM gets distracted by the main battle and forgets the mission.  Jenkins proves to be a crack shot with an M72.

Jenkin's ride turns up and is destroyed by 122mm shells.

At this point everybody is running out of steam as casualties mount on both sides.  Its pretty clear that Marines can't get Waldo anymore.  The Baba recce company rolls a 2 for activation and starts to move in the general direction of away.  Its basically down to three T55's vs two TOW's.  In an attempt to secure a solid victory the tanks go for the overrun but it goes nowhere as missiles rip into them.  In a battle of mutual annihilation victory goes to the Baba's since Waldo Jenkins is still stuck in town and the Cubans are free to explore the wrecked helicopter.
